Local lads promoting adventure in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand

Himalayan Adventure

Pauri Garhwal Despite its majestic mountains, gurgling springs and lush green meadows, Uttarakhand is yet to emerge as a tourists’ paradise. However, a modest improvement has been brought about  in high altitude  tourism in Garhwal, solely though the initiative of local youths. Enterprising youths of the area have not only reached out to the people at large throuth the internet and mobile but also provided them with necessary equipments required for trekking  and have worked as guide too.

Such youngster only need a few props by way of government policies  to promote trekking to lessen the problem of employment in the area and usher   in economic prosperity.

Be it Kedar valley, Pindar valley, Madmaheswar, Roopkund, Harki, Doon valley or valley of flowers, one can come across many young people supplying ponies, tents, sleeping bags, walking sticks and all other necessities for trekking. Porter, cook and guide, all rolled in one know how to tap the marvels of nature with which the area is blessed and try to make the most of it. Nothing  could be better if you happen to have a guide like Kunwar Singh Negi of  Wan Village who can amuse you with All the interesting stories about the area and regale you with Pahari songs  while meandering through the lush green bugyal (Green pastures) at a height of about 12,000 ft, far from the ‘Madding crowd’. Same of these young people have registered their own tourist companies, some of them operate from their houses while others work for companies such as India Hiker of Bangalore that organises  package tours on these treks. Shiv Singh the nature guide from Joshimath, taking two foreigners on a fortnight’s tour of the Himalayan, not only enjoy his work but also earns handsomely. In the off season, hr works in his fields. Shiv Singh is happy and satisfied that he is able to area a living by roaming in his beloved  valleys where his was  born and brought up.

Nothing could be better to check urbanization if the youths could find livelihood in their own surrounding, said Prithvi Pal Singh Chauhan, former Congress MLC who was on his way to Patal Nuchunyun at about 12,500ft. He told HT that it was a pity that the departmental ministers and officers  who were responsible to formulate policies for improving ways and means of such treks hardly ever reached out to identify the problems at ground zero.

A talk with Narender Bisht, Narender Negi, Shiv Singh and a few more young guides revealed that these entrepreneurs are not only capable of hard work but curious to know more and anxious to work in their own area. All they need is a little guidance and push from the government .

Hi, what do you think Uttarakhand is better name than Uttaranchal.. Do you think a few political leaders should change name of state or city without public opinion or poll... Would it be not better if they concentrate their mind in something better and and more usefull for public?
